Review of Sunday's action in Serie A

Atalanta, Inter, Milan and Roma were locked in a four-way fight for two places at Europe's top table heading into the final round of Serie A fixtures.

But victories for Atalanta and Inter meant Milan and Roma were unable to muscle in on the top four, despite ending the season with wins of their own.

Inter made hard work of their 2-1 triumph against Empoli. Keita Balde gave them the lead six minutes into the second half, but Mauro Icardi then missed a penalty and Hamed Junior Traore scored an equaliser that gave the visitors hope of avoiding the drop.

Radja Nainggolan restored the advantage after a Matias Vecino strike bounced back off the left-hand post and there was still time for Marcelo Brozovic to have a goal disallowed and Keita to be sent off for a second bookable offence. Empoli's unused substitute goalkeeper Filippo Perucchini was also shown a red card for his stoppage-time remonstrations.

Sassuolo had two players sent off as Atalanta came from behind, courtesy of goals from Duvan Zapata, Alejandro Gomez and Mario Pasalic, to win 3-1 and finish third, booking a place in the Champions League for the first time.

Milan squandered a two-goal lead at Spal before Franck Kessie netted the winner from the spot in a 3-2 victory - their fourth in a row but not enough to improve their league position.

Sixth-placed Roma were the outsiders for a top-four finish but gave Daniele De Rossi a winning send-off in a 2-1 victory over Parma.

De Rossi was afforded a standing ovation when he was replaced after 82 minutes and, although Gervinho levelled four minutes later, Diego Perotti restored Roma's lead.

Juventus could not give outgoing coach Massimiliano Allegri a victorious exit, as defeat to Sampdoria stretched their winless run to five matches.

The Bianconeri have long since clinched an eighth consecutive title and, in the absence of a number of key players, they fell to a 2-0 loss that was of little consequence to either club.

Gregoire Defrel opened the scoring in the 84th minute, before Gianluca Caprari doubled the advantage in stoppage time.

Empoli were relegated due to their unfavourable head-to-head record against Genoa, who scraped a 17th-place finish with a goalless draw at fellow strugglers Fiorentina.

Udinese, who started the day two places above the relegation zone, ended it within a point of the top half thanks to a 2-1 win at Cagliari.

In the day's remaining fixture, Lazio - who join Milan and Roma in the Europa League following their Coppa Italia triumph - were beaten 3-1 at Torino.

Lazio finish eighth, one place behind their hosts on Sunday.

English Premier League week 37 predictions and picks

a group of people playing football on a field: English Premier League week 37 predictions and picks © Provided by Genesis Media English Premier League week 37 predictions and picks

It is exciting, adrenaline-filled, and very entertaining. That's right. The English Premier League is increasingly emerging as the best form of entertainment over the weekend for fans around the world. As the league inches closer to the end, everyone is curious how the race for the winner and the top four will end.

After settling scores in week 36, all eyes are now looking at week 37 of the Premier League. Last week was characterized by surprise results and unexpected outcomes. Arsenal fell under Leicester's wrath while Manchester City narrowly escaped a draw, thanks to a phenomenal late strike by the sensational Sergio Aguero.

As Liverpool and Manchester City are punching each other blow after blow in the race for the top prize, Chelsea and Arsenal have been racing for the remaining two slots in the top four rankings. The coming weekend will be a struggle in the quest to climb higher in the table rankings. Here are analyzed English Premier League predictions for week 37.

Well, much was anticipated last weekend but some outcomes was surprisingly unforeseeable. While some fixtures seemed so accurate and direct, they ended up unexpectedly, while others ended up as predicted. Here are fixtures and picks for this coming weekend.

    1. Everton VS Burnley

Everton's matchday 36 ended up in a barren draw against Crystal Palace at their home turf. While the past few weeks has seen them thrush their opponents, Palace was unforeseeable. This Friday, they will be inviting the resilient Burnley at the Goodson Park. Last week, the Clarets demonstrated their brilliance against Manchester City despite the 0-1 loss at home. This weekend, they will be looking to extend their amazing performances as they travel to face Everton.

    Match prediction: Draw

    Score prediction: 2-2

    2. Bournemouth VS Tottenham Hotspurs

The race for the top four took a different tune, with Arsenal losing to Leicester, and Man United taking a draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford. Spurs also lost to West Ham but escaped narrowly, remaining the third best team so far. With 70 points after 36 games, they will be eyeing to remain in the top four, but Bournemouth is not an easy opponent as one can imagine. In their last fixture, they drew 3-3 against Southampton while playing away. They are currently above the relegation mark but will be eyeing to outmatch their opponents for their fans sake and club's glory.

    Match prediction: Bournemouth to win

    Score prediction: 2-1

    3. West Ham VS Southampton

This match will play on Saturday and will bring together once old-time rivals. After being the first team to beat Spurs in their new stadium, the hammers will be aiming at nothing but a win this weekend in the London home stadium. Recently, they have been on top owing to their 2-2 draw against Leicester and a narrow 2-1 loss against Man United.

Southampton has all the rage coming to this game after a poor performance over their past four English Premier League fixtures characterized by two draws and two losses. While they are good at scoring goals, they will have to sharpen their defence and prevent more from getting in against them.

    Match prediction: West Ham Wins

    Score prediction: 3-1

    4. Wolves VS Fulham

Wolves have been impressive over the last five fixtures. They have recorded an unbeaten run in their previous three matches, with one being against Arsenal where they triumphed 3-1. As they welcome Fulham this weekend, they are the favourites and potential winners. On the other hand, Fulham has proven to be in the danger zone but still wedge a fierce fight for survival. Their three recent wins have given them a great momentum that may see them walk away with three points come this Saturday.

    Match prediction: Wolves to win

    Score prediction: 2-1

    5. Cardiff City VS Crystal Palace

Cardiff City has lost all their five fixtures including their latest 1-0 loss to relegation prone Fulham. They are now facing relegation, with the team's performance at their lowest ever. Crystal, on the other hand, has had a season of their lives, with impressive performances despite the unexpected struggles and losses. Unlike Cardiff, they have won three of their last five matches and will seek to extend their remarkable run come this weekend. Having drawn 0-0 against Everton, they are the favourites as they visit Cardiff City.

Match prediction: Crystal Palace to win

    Score prediction: 0-2

    6. New Castle VS Liverpool

New Castle drew 1-1 at Brighton the past weekend after narrowly escaping a possible loss. While most had considered this a single fixture due to Brighton's struggling state, it was a shocker of the weekend when they always walked with a point. This weekend, New Castle will have to braid themselves for yet another struggle of their season as they host the unstoppable Liverpool. Klopp has been unforgiving to all their opponents, crashing them relentlessly. This weekend, they will have to demolish the New Castle defences and triumph over them to retain the first position in EPL.

    Match prediction: Liverpool to win

    Score prediction: 0:4

    7. Chelsea VS Watford

Come Sunday, Chelsea will be back on the pitch to fight for their position on the top four. All has been wavy for them in the previous fixtures, but the 1-1 draw against United on Sunday was an encouraging leap. While rumours have it that Hazard will be off for Real Madrid this summer, the best gift to the team would be a Champions League appearance come next season. With possibilities of getting into the league, it will be interesting to see what Mauricio Sari's men will use to get into the Champion League come next season.

The Hornets are equally great contenders in this season's premier and are a danger to Chelsea's progress. Come this weekend, they will be travelling to London with the hope of securing a win even as they prepare for the FA finals against Manchester City on 15th May.

    Match prediction: Draw

    Score prediction: 1-1

    8. Huddersfield VS Manchester United

Huddersfield has nothing to fight for except their glory and their resounding support from their fans. After the 4-3 loss to West Ham the previous weekend, it's clear that their fate is sealed. The Red Devils, on the other hand, are leaving nothing to chance as they aim to feature in the Champions League come next season. Despite their poor performance over the past few weeks, their 1-1 draw against Chelsea last Sunday was a confirmation of their willingness to reach the top four. They will have to win this match and the subsequent matches to seal their fate in the top four.

Match prediction: Manchester United to win

    Score prediction: 1 – 3

    9. Arsenal VS Brighton Hove Albion

Arsenal has lost three of their last fixtures both away and at home and recorded one of their worst Premier League results since Emery took over. Their struggling state has seen them risk the chance of featuring in the top four after Chelsea slid past them to stand at position four with 67 points. While they have an alternative way through the Europa League, they still face competition from Chelsea.

However, Brighton has suffered many defeats this season including three draws in their last four fixtures, and will not be posing enough threat to Arsenal. Nevertheless, Brighton will be unrelenting come Sunday, as they aim to secure a point at Emirates.

    Match prediction: Arsenal to win

    Score prediction: 1 – 0

    10. Manchester City VS Leicester

Manchester City is currently glorying over their 12 games unbeaten streak in the EPL that has given them the nearest chance to win the overall prize. Guardiola will be eyeing to defend the EPL title for the second consecutive year, becoming the second ever coach to achieve this after Sir Alex Ferguson in 2009. Facing Leicester is however not a walk in the park for City.

The Foxes have proven their worth in the last match against Arsenal, and Jamie Vardy is on his top scoring form. Their 3-0 win against The Gunners will be the greatest motivation come Monday night at the Etihad Stadium. For football lovers, this is the feature game for matchday 37.

    Match prediction: Draw

    Score prediction: 1-1

As the English Premier League resumes this weekend for week 37 fixtures, there will be favourites and potential losers. The top four race continues to get hotter, so is the quest for the top prize. Fans will have to prepare themselves for yet another week full of surprises and celebrations, with only two matches remaining for each team to the end of the season. These English Premier League predictions for Saturday and Sunday should ignite your mood and get you started ahead of the exciting weekend.

Premier League title winner predictions: will Man City or Liverpool be champions?

After months of swapping positions at the top of the Premier League table it will finally be decided this weekend if Manchester City or Liverpool are crowned as the 2018-19 champions.

This season's title race has been one of the closest - and best - in memory and it comes down to the final matches on Sunday 12 May.

With one fixture remaining Pep Guardiola's City, the defending champions, are currently top of the table with 95 points. Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool are just a point behind on 94.

With a goal difference of +69, compared to Liverpool's +65, it's all in City's hands.

City travel to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday on the back of a 13-match winning run in the league and if they make it 14 they will secure back-to-back titles for the first time in their history.

However, a draw or defeat for City at the Amex Stadium would give Liverpool the opportunity to take top spot on the final day if they beat Wolves at Anfield.

The Merseysiders have won nine of their last ten league matches and will be on a high after their Champions League exploits in midweek.

    Pep: we will attack

City boss Guardiola has vowed that his side will attack at the Amex on Sunday. He said: "We have one more game left. It will be tough at Brighton. We played them in the FA Cup semi-final a few weeks ago and know how tough it will be.

"They are strong with set-pieces. I know they are going to play for pride but it is in our hands.

"We are going to go to Brighton and make an extra effort to win: attack them and attack them and attack them to be champions."

    Trophies at both stadiums

The Manchester Evening News reports that the Premier League will have a trophy, medals and presentation team at both grounds this weekend.

Simon Bajkowski writes: "The trophies will be identical in design and look, with an engraved base detailing past champions but the 'champions' trophy that has been at the Etihad this year will be at Brighton while the one used by the league will be at Liverpool."

    Times and TV details

The Brighton vs. Man City and Liverpool vs. Wolves fixtures kick off at 3pm (UK time) and both matches are live on Sky Sports.

Here we look at full fixture list for the final day and the pundit predictions on who will win the Premier League title race.

Premier League final day fixtures: Sunday 12 May (3pm)
  • Brighton & Hove Albion vs. Manchester City (live on Sky Sports)
  • Burnley vs. Arsenal
  • Crystal Palace vs. AFC Bournemouth
  • Fulham vs. Newcastle United
  • Leicester City vs. Chelsea
  • Liverpool vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers (live on Sky Sports)
  • Manchester United vs. Cardiff City
  • Southampton vs. Huddersfield Town
  • Tottenham Hotspur vs. Everton
  • Watford vs. West Ham United
  • Predictions: who will win the title? Paul Merson, Sky Sports: Man City

"I just can't see Man City not winning. Nothing shocks me in football after the Champions League this week. But when you look at this week, the two teams who came back are very good teams, with very good players. If Man City go ahead early, Liverpool have got to just get this game out of their memory, get it out of the way. They might need to get in front early doors, but if Man City go 2-0 up, they've got to start thinking about the game [against Tottenham] in three weeks in my opinion. Wolves will be dangerous, but there's no place like Liverpool. It'll be a hard game for them, though. Score predictions: Brighton 0 Manchester City 3; Liverpool 2 Wolves 1."

Alan Shearer, BBC Match of the Day: Man City

"It has been a title race like no other I can remember, because of the relentless way both teams have kept on getting results. I am expecting both teams to continue their winning runs in their final league games of the season on Sunday, which would mean Liverpool missing out on the title having only lost once in that competition all season. If that does happen, it will have taken the best team of the Premier League era to beat them, and the Reds have pushed City all the way."

Mark Lawrenson, BBC Sport: Man City

"It is hard to see anything but a City win here simply because of what we have seen from them in the past few weeks. It is not just that they have kept on winning that is impressive - and they have triumphed in their past 13 league games - it's the way have managed those matches brilliantly. City have never been behind in any of those games, and they have conceded only three goals. At the other end, whenever they have really needed a goal, they have got one. They have had to keep winning to stay above Liverpool and defend their title, and I can't believe they will fall at the very final hurdle, against a team who are 17th in the table."

Ian Wright, Premier League TV: Liverpool

"They [Liverpool] are showing character. They're chasing down a great Manchester City side and they don't know when they're beaten. What's good about is they believe themselves. The fact is Liverpool have not stopped, they've made this an unbelievable race. I chose Liverpool at the start of the season, it's no secret. You couldn't ask for anymore, run for your money. And I still think something might happen."

Danny Higginbotham, Sky Sports: Man City

"There always has to be a doubt but it would be incredible, it would be absolutely incredible and it would be a massive turn up if Brighton were to get a point off Manchester City."

    Goal.com: Man City

"Having stormed the league in record-breaking fashion last season, the Citizens have been forced to demonstrate a different kind of mettle under constant pressure from a relentless Liverpool team. Indeed, they have maintained their winning streak despite scoring less than two goals a game over the last ten fixtures, with three of the most recent four victories secured via narrow 1-0 scorelines. This solid defence should be more than enough to keep out Chris Hughton's goal-shy [Brighton] outfit, which has only scored twice in nine matches - while conceding in ten of their last 11."

    Sports Chat Place: Man City

"Brighton have not had a good season and with everything settled, it is hard to see the home side having enough to challenge the Sky Blues. Manchester City have been outstanding and the team will be high on confidence having won their last 13 fixtures. Manchester City are the stronger side and I see them winning this match and retaining their Premier League title."

    Euro Fantasy League: Man City

"Brighton are safe and will play Premier League football next season after Cardiff were relegated last week. This is the match for Manchester City, win and they will be champions again. Much could rest on the fitness levels of Fernandinho and the goal scoring qualities of Sergio Aguero. One mark against City is that they are only just winning games."

Premier League Fixtures: Live Stream, TV Schedule and Week 38 EPL Predictions

Manchester City or Liverpool will be crowned Premier League champions on Sunday, when all 20 teams play their final league games of the season.

Pep Guardiola's side must beat Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium to retain their title or match Liverpool's result at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

City are a point clear of the Reds after their 1-0 victory over Leicester City on Monday and will be favourites to beat a Brighton that sit in 17th.

Liverpool appear to have the tougher fixture at home to seventh-place Wolverhampton Wanders. Yet the Reds are unbeaten at Anfield this season in the league and will be boosted by their 4-0 UEFA Champions League win over Barcelona on Tuesday, which sent them to the final for the second straight year.

    Brighton vs. Manchester City

The destiny of the Premier League title is in the champions' hands going into the final day, and Guardiola says it is a "dream come true" to be in this position:

Manchester City could be boosted by the return of Belgium international Kevin De Bruyne for the game, but key midfielder Fernandinho will miss out, according to ESPN FC's Jonathan Smith:

The Citizens head into the match on a brilliant run of form. Guardiola's side have won their past 13 league games and have not tasted defeat in the league since January.

Brighton successfully avoided the drop this season and have little but pride to play for, but manager Chris Hughton says his players will be doing all they can to get a result:

The Seagulls have gone 10 games without a win in all competitions, but they picked up a point at Arsenal last time out.

Hughton also has experience of beating Manchester City on the final day:

Yet Manchester City will not fear their trip to the south coast, and while nerves may play a part for the visitors, they are expected to gain the win needed to lift the trophy.

    Liverpool vs. Wolves

Liverpool produced an incredible comeback against Barcelona on Tuesday to reach the Champions League final.

Manager Jurgen Klopp is hoping for more miracles on Sunday:

The Reds are aiming to be crowned champions of England for the first time since 1990, but a win against Wolves would not be enough if Manchester City beat Brighton.

Liverpool could be boosted by the return from injury of top scorer Mohamed Salah, who was concussed against Newcastle United, according to Paul Gorst at the Liverpool Echo.

Klopp also said Jordan Henderson and Andy Robertson should be fit but that Roberto Firmino will miss out:

Wolves have enjoyed a superb season on their return to the Premier League and have enjoyed impressive victories over Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side have also won against Liverpool this season, as they knocked them out of the FA Cup in January:

Wolves will present the Reds with a stiff challenge on the final day, yet Klopp's side are on a roll and know they have to win if they are to have any chance of ending their long wait to be crowned champions.

It has been fantastic.

"The Champions League in Munich was an amazing night to be part of, to be in the team that enabled Chelsea to win it for the first time was amazing but a very close second for me was the first Premier League I won.

"I have watched this league since I was a kid and I know how hard it is to go out every single week and try to get three points, as you saw in this game in the first half against Watford, so to do that consistently throughout the period of a season and to win the trophy is one of the best feelings as well."

Former Chelsea midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah was also handed a rare appearance by visitors Watford, making his first league start since December.

His manager Javi Gracia had been impressed with his performance during the first half and Chalobah told Watford's official website: "It's been a very difficult year for me, coming in and out, but I just tried to give everything I can.

"I left it all out there and I blew up after about 50 minutes! It's always difficult not playing games and that match fitness and sharpness is something you always lack when you don't get that opportunity.

"But what can I do? The boys been flying this year and you've got to look at it that way and keep going."

EPL Week 35 Predictions: Premier League Picks, Key Players and Fixtures

    Julian Finney/Getty Images

The 2018-19 Premier League campaign is rattling towards a thrilling end, with Liverpool and Manchester City still locked in a remarkable title race. This weekend, like all those remaining in the campaign, will be key in determining who gets their hands on the trophy.

City have the sterner task this week, as they host Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium for the second time in four days following their UEFA Champions League clash. If Pep Guardiola's side can claim victory, they will move a point clear at the summit of the table.

Then it will be the turn of the Reds to respond on Easter Sunday, and they will be big favourites when they travel to Cardiff City, who need to find something special in the remaining weeks of the season to avoid relegation. Manchester United visit Everton earlier in the day.

Here are the matches to come from Week 35 in English football's top flight, a prediction for each and a closer look at a couple of players capable of making a big impact on their respective games.

    Premier League, Week 35 Fixtures

    Saturday, April 20

12:30 p.m. Manchester City vs. Tottenham Hotspur (2-1)

    3 p.m. Bournemouth vs. Fulham (2-0)

3 p.m. West Ham United vs. Leicester City (1-1)

3 p.m. Wolverhampton Wanderers vs. Brighton & Hove Albion (2-1)

    5:30 p.m. Newcastle United vs. Southampton (1-0)

    Sunday, April 21

    1:30 p.m. Everton vs. Manchester United (1-1)

    4 p.m. Cardiff City vs. Liverpool (0-3)

    4 p.m. Arsenal vs. Crystal Palace (2-0)

    Monday, April 22

    Raheem Sterling, Manchester City

    Julian Finney/Getty Images

The 2018-19 season has been another of incredible progression for Raheem Sterling, who has proved to be one of the decisive players in the title race.

In a potentially tricky game at Crystal Palace on Sunday, he was on hand to score City's first and second goals, temporarily helping them back to the top of the table.

Afterwards, Sterling reflected on a great day for him and also joked about a clear chance he missed earlier in the game:

While there were doubts over the 24-year-old's finishing ability earlier in his career, he has emerged as one of the most productive players in the Premier League:

Manager Pep Guardiola will be looking for Sterling to improve that record against Tottenham, in what is the toughest home fixture City have left this season.

As we can see, it's a key point in the campaign for the Premier League champions:

Although City have a tougher run-in than Liverpool in the coming weeks, there are no signs of the Manchester outfit slowing down at the moment.

With Sterling in red-hot form and City on a tremendous winning run in the Premier League, expect them to heap the pressure back on to the Reds on Sunday.

    Mohamed Salah, Liverpool

After a string of games without scoring, Mohamed Salah is hitting form at the perfect time for Liverpool.

Following a brilliant winner at Southampton, the 26-year-old scored a laser-guided long-range effort against Chelsea in Sunday's 2-0 win, clinching victory for the Reds in what was likely the toughest remaining game of the campaign.

Salah may not have hit the extraordinary heights he reached last season, but there's no doubt he's been a key man in Liverpool's chase for the title.

Per Squawka Football, the Egyptian is in the mix to win the Golden Boot once again:

After the win, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp paid tribute to the Liverpool No. 11 and his goal at Anfield:

It's difficult to see how Cardiff will handle Salah, not to mention his attacking team-mates, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. Defensively, Neil Warnock's men have been poor this term, and they lack the quality in midfield and incision in attack to trouble the division's best defence.

With that in mind, expect Salah to run riot in south Wales and ensure Liverpool remain on track for what would be a memorable title triumph.

The 2018/19 Spanish La Liga has witnessed upsets in the world of football. Some of the dominant teams have been thrashed by underdogs. This weekend is matchday 36 in La Liga matches, and much is anticipated from football fanatics.

Image: flickr.com @ recent football news

After week 35 La Liga results, we saw four draws, and eight wins. Cumulatively, there were only 15 goals scored across all fixtures with league giants and favourites Real Madrid suffering another loss under Zidane's stewardship. Barcelona escaped with a narrow 1-0 win over Levante to be crowned the winners of the 2018/19 La Liga cup, while Atletico Madrid narrowly escaped a loss at home after a 1-0 win over Valladolid. These are analyzed predictions for La Liga fixtures.

    1. Sevilla VS Leganes

Sevilla suffered a 1-0 loss in their last fixture against Girona. After 35 matches and earning 55 points, the club sits at position five behind Getafe. Their quest for the top four slots will see them perform when they welcome Leganes this weekend. A win will steer them up to the La Liga table above Getafe who they currently tie on points.

On the other hand, Leganes will be seeking a win after a 0-0 draw last weekend. A win for them will be a priceless gift for their fans. Sevilla has won three out of five games before against Leganes who have registered two draws and three losses over the past five fixtures.

    Match prediction: Sevilla to win

    Score prediction: 2 -1

    2. Levante VS Rayo Vallecano

Levante is narrowly above the relegation zone with 37 points after 35 Spanish League matches, and are in a tie with both Girona and Celta Vigo who are also at 37 points. This weekend, they will be facing almost relegated Rayo Vallecano, currently in the second last position with only 31 points. Levante has to win if they will secure a La Liga Primera Division position in the coming season. On the other hand, Rayo Vallecano will be seeking to extend their win after thrashing league contenders Real Madrid 1-0 the previous weekend.

    Match prediction: Draw

    Score prediction: 1-1

    3. Espanyol VS Atletico Madrid

After a tough weekend, Blanquiazules will back on the pitch to square it out against Atletico Madrid. Their last match ended in a 1-1 draw against Real Betis, but this time they are playing from home ground and will be on top gear. Atletico Madrid has no title to chase after Barcelona were crowned the 2018/19 La Liga champions following their 1-0 win against Levante. This week they will be fighting it out against Espanyol in a bid to cement their position as the second runners up in La Liga Primera division.

After the loss of Real Madrid last weekend, the pressure for the second position is no longer high. Diego Simeone's boys are going to pursue maximum points from their remaining games. This is part of their agenda to be a force to reckon, and a resounding declaration of their ambitions come the next season.

Match prediction: Atletico Madrid to win

    Score prediction: 2-1

    4. Alaves VS Real Sociedad

Alaves are currently sitting at position eight of the La Liga table after a 1-1 draw in their last fixture against Atletico Bilbao. With only 47 points after 35 matches, the team will not be chasing the top four position. On the other hand, Real Sociedad has had a great momentum that saw them outperform Getafe to a 2-1 win in their home turf. Their goal will be to extend the winning streak and climb over Alaves who have left a three-point margin between them.

    Match prediction: Draw

    Score prediction: 2-2

    5. Celta Vigo Vs Barcelona

This is a typical exemplification of the David vs Goliath encounter as struggling Celta Vigo come face to face with league champions, Barcelona. While they will be playing at home, the sky blues will not be without the threats of Barcelona's striking trio. Celta Vigo drew in their last fixture after a 0-0 match against Leganes.

On the other hand, Barcelona won their previous fixture after an undefeated five-match streak in all competitions. Although they have already won the overall prize in La Liga, they will still unleash their wrath over Celta Vigo to claim all the possible points.

    Match prediction: Barcelona to win

    Score prediction: 1-3

    6. Getafe VS Girona

Getafe are currently the fourth best team in La Liga and will be welcoming Girona, currently fighting to remain afloat against the imminent relegation threat. In their last fixture, Getafe was devastated to a 2-1 loss in favour of Real Sociedad. On the other hand, Girona is seeking to avoid relegation with only 37 points, two above their relegation prone competitors. Girona won 1-0 against Sevilla in their previous fixture, and another winner will be instrumental in guiding them back to the Primera Division of La Liga come next season.

    Match prediction: Getafe to win

    Score prediction: 1-0

    7. Eibar VS Real Betis

Eibar is currently twelfth in the La Liga table with 43 points after 35 matches. They will be facing off against eleventh position Real Betis with 44 points. In the past five matches, Eibar has won only one match, lost three and drawn one.

On the other hand, Betis has also won one of their last five fixtures, emerging with three losses and one draw. These Spanish La Liga teams have a nearly similar performance and can only be separated by a match between them. During the last weekend fixtures, Eibar emerged winners earning three crucial points while their opponents Betis were held to a 1-1 draw at home. This weekend, the two will be seeking to outwit each other in a match that will prove the better team in the quest to climb above the top ten.

    Match prediction: Eibar to win

    Score prediction: 2 -1

    8. Real Madrid VS Villarreal

Struggling Real Madrid is back on the field this weekend when they welcome Villarreal. Since the exit of Ronaldo, Madrid has been fluctuating in their performances. This entail getting ousted in the quarterfinals stage of the champions league and losing out on their Copa del Rey position as the usual finalists against Barcelona. However, after the return of Zidane, things may be taking a new turn ahead of the next season, but they have to guarantee their top four positions by winning the matches. On the other hand, Villarreal will be seeking to extend their four-game unbeaten run this weekend after a 1-1 draw last week.

Match prediction: Real Madrid to win

    Score prediction: 1-0

    9. Valladolid VS Atletico Bilbao

Valladolid is currently the third last team in the La Liga Standings, with merely 31 points after 35 matches. The club has lost two of their last five matches emerging with only one win and two draws. Another loss will see them slide lower into the relegation zone with no possibility of resurfacing.

On the other hand, Atletico Bilbao has won two of their last five matches with one draw and two losses. They are currently sitting at position seven, only two points behind Valencia and five points behind the fifth position, Sevilla. Winning all their matches may guarantee them a position in the Europa league come next season.

Match prediction: Atletico Bilbao to win

    Score prediction: 2-1

    10. Huesca VS Valencia

Huesca is currently sitting in the last place with only 30 points after 35 matches. They have had an undefeated five-game streak in their previous five fixtures, with one win and four draws. While they are keen on their defences, the club may be heading to a sure relegation especially if they continue with their non-winning streak.

On the other hand, Valencia is currently sixth in the La Liga table after Sevilla. With 52 points after 35 matches, Valencia has qualified for the Europa league qualifies, but they are eyeing a bigger goal of playing in the Champions League come next season. Cumulatively, Valencia needs to garner six points to secure a place in the top four and hope for a draw or loss by Sevilla. This means they must win this match against Huesca if they are to edge closer to this goal.

    Match prediction: Valencia to win

    Score prediction: 0-2

These are analyzed Spanish La Liga predictions for week 36. They should be sufficient to get you started in anticipation for the eventful weekend. Further, all the matches will be played between Friday and Sunday, so brace yourself for the long and entertaining weekend ahead. You can go through the list and identify your favourite picks to follow before the kickoff.

Primera predictions: LaLiga Santander 2018-19 week 34

There are just four games to go in the current LaLiga Santander season and with places for Europe still on the line, Barça close to retaining their title and at least seven sides battling to avoid the drop to Segunda, every game in this midweek round of fixtures has something at stake.

Huesca-Eibar (Tuesday 19:30) Prediction: home win

    CHEMA DIAZ (DIARIO AS)

Huesca's draw on Saturday away to Rayo did few favours for the side currently propping up the table and anything less than a win tonight at the Estadio Alcoraz, whilst not mathematically condemning the men from Aragón, would require a miracle of Herculean proportions for the Ocenses not to make a direct return to the Spanish second tier. Tonight's rivals Eibar are one of the few teams in no-man's land with thoughts very firmly focused on flip-flops and Pina Coladas.

Valladolid - Girona (Tuesday 20:30) Prediction: home win

Two of LaLiga's most poorly performing sides currently come face to face at the Estadio José Zorilla with Valladolid the needier of two. The 'blanqui-violetas' currently occupy the final relegation place and will be desperate to avoid the drop in Ronaldo's first season as new owner. Visitors Girona go into the game on the back of five straight defeats and are very much in the relegation quagmire too. Not a game for the purists!

Alavés - FC Barcelona (Tuesday 21:30) Prediction: away win

    JOSEP LAGO (AFP)

The wheels have come off at Mendizorroza for the Basque side. The early season surprise package have run out of gas and the impact of selling Ibai Gómez, rumours rife that manager Abelardo is refusing to stay on next season and ongoing fan discontent with LaLiga and club management have combined to see initial optimism evaporate in Vitoria. A Barça win tonight, coupled with Atleti failing to beat Valencia this mid-week would see Valverde's men crowned LaLiga champions.

Atlético - Valencia (Wednesday 19:30) Prediction: home win

    RAFA APARICIO (DIARIO AS)

Valencia have been the success story in the latter half of the current LaLiga Santander campaign. Celebrating their centenary, Los Che are in the final of the Copa del Rey where the will face Barça and are also in the mix for a Europa League final berth with Premier League outfit Arsenal their semi-final opponents. Despite four wins on the bounce for Marcelino's men, the Wanda Metropolitano is a notoriously difficult ground for away sides with city rivals Real Madrid being the only team to secure maximum points at the new stadium this season.

Leganés - Athletic (Wednesday 20:30) Prediction: draw

Leganés are, along with Real Sociedad, Espanyol and Eibar, one of the few teams who have in truth little but pride to play for in the remaining LaLiga fixtures. The Cucumber Growers' objective of maintaining top flight status has been achieved but the side from Butarque will be no pushover for Europa League place chasers Athletic, with Mauricio Pelligrino's side succumbing to just two home defeats throughout the 2018-19 season.

Espanyol - Celta (Wednesday 20:30) Prediction: draw

They say football is a team game but in Vigo fans will tell you that this not the case and the current Celta side is all about one individual... a certain Iago Aspas Juncal. The Galician side's turnaround since the striker's return to the team from injury is nothing short of remarkable and his goals, assists and more importantly his presence have been fundamental in taking Celta from relegation certs to a side with a positive trajectory.

Levante - Betis (Wednesday 21:30) Prediction: home win

"Quique vete ya! [Quique go now!]" was the chant from Real Betis fans on Sunday night with the disillusioned Benito Villamarín faithful - not for the first time this season - calling for then head of the first team coach. Setién maintains his side have an outside chance of a European place. More likely is the possibility of Levante making a return to Segunda with the Valencia-based outfit in freefall having picked up just four points from a possible 27 in their past nine LaLiga games.

Sevilla - Rayo Vallecano (Thursday 19:30) Prediction: home win

    LUIS TEJIDO (EFE)

Many neutrals will be disappointed to see a return to the Segunda for Rayo and the side from the working class Madrid suburb did their slender dreams of salvation no favours with a home stalemate against Huesca on Saturday. A run of games against fellow strugglers Levante, Valladolid and Celta may be academic if Paco Jémez's side fail to take anything from a tricky trip to the Andalusian capital, where Sevilla will want to get their fourth-place aspirations back on track after Sunday's defeat at Getafe.

Real Sociedad - Villarreal (Thursday 20:30) Prediction: draw

With two wins in their past three league games Villarreal, whilst still not out of relegation danger zone, can face the final five fixtures at least knowing that their destiny is very much in their own hands. The side deemed by many observers as 'too good to go down' can now fully pay attention to the domestic battle for survival after recent Europa League elimination to their Mediterranean neighbours Valencia CF. Real Sociedad are in 'off-mode' already.

Getafe - Real Madrid (Thursday 21:30) Prediction: draw

Will there ever be a better time for Getafe to face the giants from the Bernabéu? Real Madrid are in a state of flux with more focus on which players will make the cut for new coach Zinedine Zidane in a LaLiga version of Madrid's Got Talent as the French coach assesses the composition of his 2019-20 squad. Getafe are in a Champions League position – yes, you read that correctly - and credit to this feat surely must go to coach Jose Bordálas who has taken the Azulones from the lower reaches of Segunda to the gates of Europe's most prestigious club competition.
